I want to remind you to take it easy - no matter how ambitious your goals are.
Hard work can take you places, but you must do it in a sustainable and intentional way. I can use different examples to tell the same lesson, but I want to use my basketball journey this time around.
I remember in high school, I really wanted to get recruited to play university basketball. I was working out up to 4 times a day. Eventually, I sustained a knee injury because my body couldn’t handle the workload I was putting on it. By the time I became a university athlete, I had to get knee surgery in my 1st year due to complications from that injury.
It was a gentle reminder to be patient. We often focus on finding motivation, but we should also talk about how to sustain ourselves when we have high spirits. That is another part of the battle.
It’s something I’m still learning to do. A few weekends ago was a prime example.
I had plans to work out, swim, read, create more video content for my business, hoop, write some blogs, and find time to relax (this sentence doesn’t sound relaxing). I hurt my back working out right when the weekend started funny enough.
It was a gentle reminder to be patient.
That’s why I’m reminding you to take it easy. Work towards your goals. Understand what motivates you. But most importantly, take care of your mind, body, and soul in the process.
You’ll need those things in tact as you get to the places you dream of.

Note: If you’re looking for a nice book to reflect on how we find purpose, a book I enjoyed was The Alchemist. It shares insightful reflections through a well-written, fictional story. I have read a lot of books in my life, so am always happy to recommend ones based on the seasons people are in.
This picture was taken as I competed at the Toronto Pro Am last summer. It was an intense environment playing with a lot of high level pro and even NBA players. In its own way though, it reminded me that this was a time to enjoy my time on the court while I still can.
